Washdown-grade industrial camera खरीदी — IP69K rated। एक हफ्ते बाद उसे कुछ देर के लिए पानी में रखना पड़ा — और वो leak हो गई।
दोनों cases में product का IP rating सही था। आपकी समझ गलत थी। इसलिए नहीं कि आप smart नहीं हैं — बल्कि इसलिए कि IP rating system genuinely confusing है, और manufacturers marketing में जानबूझकर वो parts highlight करते हैं जो impressive लगते हैं।

IP Rating Actually है क्या — Standard कहाँ से आता है
IP का full form है Ingress Protection — यानी कितनी अच्छी तरह product के अंदर बाहरी चीज़ें नहीं घुस सकतीं।
यह standard बनाया है International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) ने — specifically IEC 60529 standard के under। यह global standard है — एक US company का IP67 और एक Japanese company का IP67 same test conditions में pass हुआ होना चाहिए।
IP code में दो digits होते हैं:
- First Digit (0-6) — Solid particles से protection। Dust, debris, contact।
- Second Digit (0-9K) — Liquid से protection। Water, steam, pressure।

IP67 — "Dunk-Proof" Rating: असली क्या है
IP67 का water test specification IEC 60529 में clearly defined है:

IP68 — "Submersible" Rating: जो Marketing Nahi Batati
यहाँ वो hidden detail है जो most reviews miss करते हैं।
IP67 का test specification fixed और standardized है — 1 meter, 30 minutes। IP68 का test specification standardized नहीं है।
IEC 60529 IP68 के लिए सिर्फ यह कहता है: "IP67 से ज़्यादा protection होनी चाहिए।" Exact depth और duration manufacturer define करता है।
